Bruce was born and raised on the West Coast between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Living in Grenada in his late teens may have contributed to a passion for the ocean, sailing and the tropics... it's hard to say but he never really left the sea after that. Captaining charter boats in the Caribbean, whale watching boat in Santa Barbara, and multiple off shore deliveries finally brought him to Sag Harbor.
He started BTA in 1982 as a family run brokerage firm; his daughter joined the firm in 1989 and now heads up the charter division. Yacht sales, commissioning and management projects have sent him to locales around the globe. His energetic, "hands on" attitude has solidified long term client relations and inter industry friendships along the way.
Bruce loves ocean and inshore yacht racing and has completed in Antigua Race weeks, the Marion and Newport-Bermuda race, Block Island Race Weeks, Heineken Regattas and Les Voile de St. Tropez. He races his J-105 every week in the summer and competes in most area regattas.
Bruce is Chairman of the Sag Harbor Village Harbor Review Committee, and a director and co-founder of the Sag Harbor Charity Cup Challenge, Inc. He is a member of both the Sag Harbor Yacht Club and Breakwater Yacht Club. He was instrumental in forming the Pierson High School Sailing Team and serves as their head coach.
